Dense rows of Pennsylvania-German worker housing built during Atlas Cement's heyday. The Atlas Cement Memorial Museum is in the borough — Atlas was so dominant it petitioned the county courts in 1909 to change the local political alliance into a borough, reportedly to make sending and receiving mail easier for the company.
